Learners are taught to identify emotions in themselves and others, and various preventative strategies to help self-regulate. This service also includes caregiver sessions to provide caregivers with strategies to support emotional regulation needs at home and other settings.

Skills taught can include:

  • Discussing emotions as they relate to the “Zones of Regulation”
  • Describing how anger impacts them
  • Identifying and demonstrating various relaxation strategies
  • Understanding the size of a problem and problem-solving strategies
  • Identifying personal triggers and triggers in hypothetical scenarios

Skills We Focus On

Understanding emotions: recognizing feelings in self and others using the “Zones of Regulation.”

Anger management: describing how anger affects them and practicing coping strategies.

Relaxation strategies: identifying and using calming techniques.

Trigger awareness: recognizing personal and hypothetical triggers and responding appropriately.

This program is not suitable if your child:

Engages in behaviours that could cause injury to self or others

Needs consistent 1:1 support for learning

Is still developing basic readiness skills (e.g., attending, following directions, transitions)

Does not speak in full sentences
